RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Hardy Myers has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 77; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Hardy Myers was the loving and devoted husband of Mary Ann; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Hardy Myers was a former legislator who served three terms as the Attorney General of Oregon; and
WHEREAS, The son of a lumberman, the Honorable Hardy Myers graduated from the University of Mississippi and the University of Oregon School of Law; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Hardy Myers served for decades as an attorney before seeking public office; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Hardy Myers served as a member of the Oregon House of Representatives from 1974 to 1985, including a period as Speaker; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Hardy Myers served as Attorney General of Oregon from 1997 to 2009 and during his tenure in office defended Oregon's physician-assisted suicide law in the federal courts and championed legislation against tobacco companies; and ; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Hardy Myers serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Hardy Myers imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fourteenth day of December, 2016, do hereby commemorate The Honorable Hardy Myers for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
