RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, William J. Hennigan, a native of Chicago and a widely respected member of the journalism community, has been honored with the 2015 Gerald R. Ford Prize for Distinguished Reporting on National Defense; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Bestowed by the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, the prize was first awarded in 1988 and recognizes journalistic excellence and seeks to foster a better public understanding of the presidency and national defense issues; and
WHEREAS, The Foundation is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan corporation whose programs are supported entirely by contributions and bequests in an effort to honor President Ford's sustained commitment to public service; and
WHEREAS, William J. Hennigan is currently assigned to cover the Pentagon and national security issues for the Los Angeles Times' Washington, D.C., bureau; and
WHEREAS, William J. Hennigan previously worked for the newspaper in Los Angeles as its aerospace and defense beat writer for more than five years; and
WHEREAS, Before joining the newspaper, William J. Hennigan was a staff writer for the East Valley Tribune in Arizona and a writer for the Legal Times in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Raised on Chicago's South Side, William J. Hennigan earned degrees from Northern Illinois University and Arizona State University; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, professionalism and dedication of William J. Hennigan serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of June, 2015, do hereby congratulate William J. Hennigan on receiving this prestigious honor and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued success and achievement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to
William J. Hennigan.
