WHEREAS, Mark S. Yelverton, star number 16022, an outstanding public servant and member of his community, retires as an officer ofthe Chicago Police Department after twenty-eight years of dedicated service to the people of this city; and

WHEREAS, Mark served with distinction and dedication in the 006^th District. During his career Officer Yelverton was awarded forty six Honorable Mentions, twelve Complimentary Letters, two Emblem Recognition - Appearance, two Attendance Recognition Awards, one Presidential Election Deployment Award (2008), one Crime Reduction Award (2009), one Traffic Stop of the Month Award, one Democratic National Convention Award, one Nato Summit Service Award, one Crime Reduction Ribbon and one Department Commendation; and

WHEREAS, The police have the very essential job of ensuring the safety and order of their community. This sworn officer has an important role in protecting lives and property, maintaining order and enforcing all laws accurately; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Lona Lane, Alderman ofthe 18^th Ward, has apprised this august body of Yelverton's significant milestone; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this tenth day of December, 2014 A.D., do hereby salute Mark S. Yelverton for his many years of dedicated service to the safety of this city and extend our very best wishes for health, happiness, and success in all future endeavors.
