Whereas , On the morning of Sunday, November 8, 2015, Probationary Police Officer Nicholas G. Picicci, Star #13435, reported for his first day on the job with the Chicago Police Department; and

WHEREAS, Probationary Police Officer Picicci and his assigned Field Training Officer, Robert G. Cavaiani, Star #12062, were patrolling near the intersection of Belmont and Austin Avenues when they received a call reporting a medical emergency several blocks away; and

WHEREAS, Wasting no time, the officers travelled to the scene of the incident, on the 3100 block of North Marmora Avenue; and

WHEREAS, Officers Cavaiani and Picicci arrived to find a 62-year-old man sprawled helplessly on the floor of his bathroom; and

WHEREAS, The man was obviously in critical condition - his body was still warm, but he was turning grey, had no pulse, and was not breathing; and

WHEREAS, Immediately recognizing the severity of the situation, and calling on their training and experience, the officers began to administer CPR; and

WHEREAS, Officers Cavaiani and Picicci maintained efforts to resuscitate the man for several tense minutes, until the Fire Department arrived; and

WHEREAS, Paramedics detected a faint pulse and the man began taking shallow breaths; and

WHEREAS, The patient was transported to the hospital for further treatment and evaluation; and

WHEREAS, Emergency room personnel expressed certainty that the officers' handling of the situatio...
