RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Dr. C. Everett Koop has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 96; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. C. Everett Koop was the beloved husband of Cora Hogue and the late Elizabeth; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. C. Everett Koop was the much-adored father of Allen, Norman, Elizabeth and the late David to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. C. Everett Koop was an innovative pediatric surgeon whose pioneering work to correct birth defects in premature and newborn children brought hope and healing to many; and
 
WHEREAS, Appointed our nation's 13th Surgeon General by President Ronald Reagan in 1982, Dr. C. Everett Koop spearheaded successful campaigns to reduce smoking and educate the public about HIV and AIDS; and
 
WHEREAS, After stepping down as Surgeon General in 1989, Dr. C. Everett Koop continued his important efforts to keep people informed about major health issues; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. C. Everett Koop serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Dr. C. Everett Koop to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Dr. C. Everett Koop imparts a legacy of faithfulness, public service and dignity; now, therefore
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of March, 2013, do hereby commemorate Dr. C. Everett Koop for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. C. Everett Koop.
