TRIBUTE TO BETSY LOWER
WHEREAS, On February 2, 2014, in His Infinite Wisdom, God has granted eternal peace to Betsy Lower, a devoted wife, a loving mother and an outstanding citizen; and
WHEREAS, Betsy Lower started life as the daughter of the late Anthony J. and Elizabeth "Betty" Zovnic in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At the age of ten, her family moved to the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights; her father, a civil engineer with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers being transferred to the Chicago District office; and
WHEREAS, Betsy Lower graduated from Sacred Heart of Mary High School in the neighboring suburb of Rolling Meadows, matriculated to Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois and received a Registered Nurse degree from St. Francis School of Nursing in Evanston, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Betsy Lower was employed at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in this city until returning to school for her Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting from Loyola University, thereafter working as an international business accountant for Circle Fine Art and, at a later date, for Helene Curtis Industries; and
WHEREAS, In 1994, Betsy Lower left the business world behind after the birth of her child, daughter Jane. She became active in Lincoln Elementary School and was an avid Jones College Prep supporter, both Chicago Public Schools where her daughter attended; and
WHEREAS, Betsy Lower leaves behind, to celebrate her life and cherish her memories her loving husband and daughter, John B. Lower and Jane E. Lower; brothers Anthony A. Zovnic (Christine) and Thomas Zovnic (Marty), brother-in-law Michael Lower (Joyce); sisters-in-law Jody Dvorak (James), Susan Appel (Gordon), Faye Sturtevant (John Cronin), and Kathleen O'Donnell as well as many nieces, nephews and other relations and many cherished friends; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert W. Fioretti, Alderman of the 2nd Ward, has informed this august body of the loss of this special lady; now therefore
