RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Richard Driehaus has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 78; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Richard is survived by his daughters, Tereza, Caroline, Kate, and two sisters; and

WHEREAS, Richard was born and raised in the Brainerd neighborhood on Chicago's Far Southwest Side; and

WHEREAS, Richard earned a bachelor's degree and an MBA from DePaul University, where he endowed a center for a behavioral finance; and

WHEREAS, He founded Driefaus Capital Management in 1982, managing $13.2 billion through its mutual funds and other accounts, later expanding into private equity; and

WHEREAS, In 2000, Barron's named him to its "all-century" team of 25 individuals it identified as most influential in the mutual fund industry; and

WHEREAS, The Driehaus name is evidence of his generosity, which is on a museum, a foundation, an architecture prize, a fashion competition, numerous academic buildings and programs, and on awards celebrating historic preservation and the Chicago bungalow; and

WHEREAS, His philanthropy extended to numerous organizations representing many civic interests, such as a donation of $1 million to the Better Government Association; and

WHEREAS, His annual summer birthday parties at his Lake Geneva estate became legendary, complete with fireworks, and a guest list topping 1,000 people which included a mix of family, friends, celebrities, elected officials, business colleagues, and plenty of people from the nonprofits he supported; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Richard Driehaus imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of March, 2021, do hereby commemorate Richard Driehaus for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
