TRIBUTE TO THE LATE MARIE E. RIGBY

A resolution adopted by the City Council of the City of Chicago, sponsored by Alderman Debra L. Silverstein, 50th Ward -

WHEREAS, The members of the City Council are saddened to learn of the death of Marie E. Rigby of West Ridge, Chicago, who passed away surrounded by her family on May 21, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Marie Rigby was born on Chicago's North Side on October 15, 1941, the youngest of six children. She graduated from St. Scholastica High School in 1960, and soon after married her long-time crush Walter "Wally" Rigby. The two raised five children while juggling full time jobs - Walter during the day as a claims adjuster for Banker's Life & Casualty and Marie in the evenings as a waitress at Towne & Country Restaurant, then for many years at Whistler's; and

WHEREAS, Marie and Walter bought a home in the 50th Ward in 1971 and lived there for the rest of their lives. Marie was an avid parishioner and contributor to St. Henry's Parish, taking her children to mass ever Sunday and volunteering with her family for neighborhood functions, such as carnivals, rummage sales, Christmas auctions, Taste ofthe 50th, Angel Guardian and Misericordia events; and

WHEREAS, Marie Rigby was an active member of her community. She helped to petition and rally for parking permits, snow plowing, street repairs and rodent control. As a member of the 24th District Community Watch Program, she helped alleviate potential crime in the area by reporting suspicious activities and helping to organize street corner "watches"; and

WHEREAS, Marie Rigby was truly the matriarch of her family. One of her favorite traditions was Holiday Cookie Day, baking thousands of cookies with her girls to share with everyone. "Midge", as she was affectionately called, was adored and loved by all, including many four-legged furry friends at home as well as the local shelters and pet stores; and

WHEREAS, Marie Rigby, beloved wife ofthe late Walter, is survived by her children...
