RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Havana Day Dreaming, an annual charity event benefiting prostate cancer research and men's health issues, was held on Sunday, June 26, 2011, at the Peninsula Hotel in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Organizers first launched the philanthropic event in 2003 with twenty-five founding members; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, the annual Havana Day Dreaming fete has grown in attendance and raised more than $200,000 for prostate cancer research and men's health issues; and
WHEREAS, Prostate cancer is the most common malignancy in American men and the second-leading cause of deaths from cancer after lung cancer; and
WHEREAS, The risk of being stricken with prostate cancer advances with age and more than 65% of all prostate cancers are diagnosed in men over the age of sixty-five; and
WHEREAS, Research into new treatment options for prostate cancer holds out hope for better outcomes for men afflicted with this disease; and
WHEREAS, Funds raised from this endeavor will be donated to support prostate cancer research and men's health issues; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of July, 2011, do hereby commend the organizers of this event for raising money for this worthy cause; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the organizers of Havana Day Dreaming.
