RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Dr. Quentin Young has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 92; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Quentin Young was a renowned civil rights activist and public health advocate; and

WHEREAS, Raised on the South Side, Dr. Quentin Young graduated from Northwestern University Medical School and worked to desegregate Chicago hospitals; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Quentin Young was the personal physician of Mayor Harold Washington, author Studs Terkel, singer Mahalia Jackson and Governor Pat Quinn; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Quentin Young cared for the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., in 1966 when he led marches in Chicago seeking fair housing for minorities; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Quentin Young was a founder and national Chairman of the Medical Committee for Human Rights; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Quentin Young provided emergency care for protestors at the 1968 Democratic National Convention; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Quentin Young was Chairman of Medicine at Cook County Hospital from 1972 to 1981; and

WHEREAS, In 1980 Dr. Quentin Young founded the Health and Medicine Policy Research Group and was a board member for many years; and

WHEREAS, From 1967 to 2008 Dr. Quentin Young was a senior physician at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, In 2008 Dr. Quentin Young retired from his Hyde Park private practice; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Quentin Young serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Quentin Young was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Dr. Quentin Young imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
