RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Ronald C. Smith has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Ronald C. Smith was a widely admired educator and the loving husband for 47 years of Mary Ann; and

WHEREAS, Ronald C. Smith was the much-adored father of Michael and Matthew to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, After attending Fenwick High School, Ronald C. Smith received both his undergraduate and law school degrees Loyola University; and

WHEREAS, Ronald C. Smith served as a helicopter pilot and personnel officer in the United States Navy where he rose to become a Lieutenant Commander in the Reserves; and

WHEREAS, Ronald C. Smith enjoyed a long and highly successful career as a Professor at The John Marshall Law School; and

WHEREAS, Ronald C. Smith joined the faculty of John Marshall in 1968 where he specialized in constitutional and criminal law; and

WHEREAS, In 1991 Ronald C. Smith founded the National Criminal Justice Trial Advocacy Competition, co-sponsored by The John Marshall Law School and the American Bar Association, which draws competitors from around the world and trains future prosecutors and defense attorneys; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Ronald C. Smith serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Ronald C. Smith to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, Ronald C. Smith was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Ronald C. Smith imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
