RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Sister Jean Stickney has gone to her eternal reward at the age of 86; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Sister Jean Stickney was a much-beloved and longtime member of the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary; and
WHEREAS, A native of Nashua, New Hampshire, Sister Jean Stickney joined the order in 1951 which was founded by the Venerable Mary Potter in England in 1877; and
WHEREAS, A widely admired member of the religious community, Sister Jean Stickney devoted her life to caring for others; and
WHEREAS, Known for her warmth and engaging smile, Sister Jean Stickney worked at Little Company of Mary Hospital and Medical Center in Evergreen Park where she was on numerous hospital committees; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her many responsibilities, Sister Jean Stickney was the community's Vocation Director and wrote detailed obituaries of other nuns who passed away; and
WHEREAS, Sister Jean Stickney previously served her order in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Torrance, California and Buenos Aires, Argentina; and
WHEREAS, The sacrifice and dedication of Sister Jean Stickney serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Sister Jean Stickney will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Sister Jean Stickney imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of November, 2014, do hereby commemorate Sister Jean Stickney for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sister Jean Stickney.
