ORDINANCE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1: Article II of Chapter 2-84 ofthe Municipal Code ofthe City of Chicago is
hereby amended by inserting the language underscored, as follows:

2-84-100 Maintaining service provider list.
The department and superintendent shall maintain an updated list of all nonprofit and
government legal service providers that provide free legal representation to arrestees.
The department and superintendent shall ensure that all police stations and any other facilities where arrestees may be held in custody prominently post this list of providers along with their phone numbers.
The department and superintendent shall ensure that all members have a list of providers and their phone numbers to provide to arrestees within an hour upon arrival at the police station.
2-84-235 Duty upon arrest.
The members of the police department shall have the duty upon arresting a person to:
(1) Within one hour of arrival at the first place of custody and any subsequent
places of detention, inform the person arrested of their right to have free legal
counsel represent them while in police custody.
Immediately upon informing the arrestee of this right, providing a complete list of all nonprofit and government legal service providers that provide police station representation along with phone numbers to those providers.
Immediately upon informing the arrestee of this right and providing a 1 providers and their phone numbers, provide access to a telephone.
