RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE VON STEUBEN HIGH SCHOOL ROBOTICS TEAM FOR
COMPETING IN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
WHEREAS, The Von Steuben High School Robotics Team recently competed at the Illinois VRC High School State Championship; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed ofthis achievement by the Honorable Samantha Nugent, Alderman ofthe 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, The team dubbed "the Steampunk Squirrels" is comprised of juniors Hugo Correa, Tristan Workman, Alex Arroyo, and Matthew Gonzalez - and of course, their robot, Boon; and
WHEREAS, The VRC High School State Championship is a competition featuring more than 60 robotics teams from across the state, made up of challenges that the students' robots must overcome via remote control or programmed actions; and
WHEREAS, The trip to the State Championship was a long time coming for the team; they qualified to compete in their freshman and sophomore years, but COVID-19 forced the competitions to be canceled; and
WHEREAS, The Steampunk Squirrels met during one of Von Steuben's engineering camps for local grade-school students and incoming freshmen; students at the camp learn the fundamentals of building robots, and the camp gives students hands-on experience with STEM skills outside of a classroom setting, including building a robot and running it through an obstacle course; and
WHEREAS, The Steampunk Squirrels made it to the playoffs, but unfortunately they were eliminated in the first round - with their senior year starting in the fall, the team is already gearing up to take one last shot at winning a state title; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-third day of March, 2022, do hereby express our heartfelt congratulations to the Von Steuben High School Robotics Team in celebration of its appearance in the State Championship and extend our very best wishes and every success in all of their future endeavors; and
