RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Chicago Metro History Education Center will celebrate the occasion of its Thirty-Fifth Anniversary on November 30, 2012; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this milestone by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Chicago Metro History Education Center was founded in 1977 in order to promote and supplement the teaching of history in schools; and
WHEREAS, For a quarter of a century, the Chicago Metro History Education Center has worked to increase students' access to and knowledge of resources available in libraries, historical societies and universities; and
WHEREAS, Chicago Metro History Education Center annually sponsors a Chicago Metro History Fair which draws up to 15,000 students and five-hundred teachers; and
WHEREAS, Chicago Metro History Education Center has developed valuable curriculum materials to study the history of early Chicago, the City's immigrant experience and its development from "swamp to City"; and
WHEREAS, Teachers report that many students who participate annually in the Chicago Metro History Fair develop important critical-thinking skills which enhance their ability to succeed in academia; and
WHEREAS, Chicago Metro History Education Center will hold its Thirty-Fifth Annual Chicago Metro History Fair in 2013 with events hosted by Niles North High School, the Illinois Institute of Technology, Northeastern Illinois University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, the Chicago Public Library, the Newberry Library and the Chicago History Museum; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of November, 2012, do hereby congratulate the Chicago Metro History Education Center on its Thirty-Fifth Anniversary and do hereby applaud the administrators, teachers, students and community leaders who have contributed to its success; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Frank Valade...
