RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Sheila M. Harrity has been named National High School Principal of the Year; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this distinction by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The honor is bestowed by the MetLife/National Association of Secondary School Principals and recognizes outstanding leadership and cutting-edge innovation among those at the helm of our nation's middle and secondary schools; and
WHEREAS, During her esteemed tenure as Principal of Worchester Technical High School in Worchester, Massachusetts, Sheila M. Harrity has engineered a phenomenal improvement in student learning outcomes and standardized test scores; and
WHEREAS, Worchester Technical High School has teamed with local businesses and Tufts University to prepare students for successful careers; and
WHEREAS, A wide variety of on-the-job training opportunities in conjunction with high academic standards, small learning communities, and a collaborative leadership structure foster workplace skills, encourage life-long learning and form the next generation of citizen leaders who attend Worchester Technical High School; and
WHEREAS, Sheila M. Harrity and her staff have built an inspiring model for other secondary schools across the country; and
WHEREAS, The dynamic efforts of Sheila M. Harrity have helped to increase competitive standards and empower our youth to strive for excellence; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of October, 2013, do hereby commend Worchester Technical High School Principal Sheila M. Harrity for her tireless dedication to the education and formation of young people; and
