RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Harold "Hal" Moore has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 94; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Harold "Hal" Moore was the loving husband for 55 years of the late Julia; and

 

WHEREAS, Harold "Hal" Moore was the much-adored father of five and the grandfather of twelve to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, Harold "Hal" Moore served in the United States military for 32 years and retired as a Lieutenant General; and

 

WHEREAS, Known for his perseverance and courage, Harold "Hal" Moore heroically led American troops in the first major battle with the North Vietnamese army during the Vietnam War; and

 

WHEREAS, As a Lieutenant Colonel in command of the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry, at the 1965 Battle of la Drang, Harold "Hal" Moore bravely fought through a bloody, 34-day campaign; and

 

WHEREAS, Harold "Hal" Moore's leadership was later depicted in the movie "We Were Soldiers"; and

 

WHEREAS, The courage, sacrifice and dedication of Harold "Hal" Moore serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Harold "Hal" Moore to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Harold "Hal" Moore imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of March, 2017, do hereby commemorate Harold "Hal" Moore for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of HaroldJSHal" Moore.
