RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Margaret "Peggy" Carr has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 103; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of the Gold Coast, Margaret "Peggy" Carr was the loving wife for 55 years of the late Robert; and
WHEREAS, Raised in the Kenwood neighborhood, Margaret "Peggy" Carr completed a two-year program at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York; and
WHEREAS, Margaret "Peggy" Carr joined the Chicago Child Care Society, then known as the Chicago Orphan Asylum, in 1939; and
WHEREAS, Margaret "Peggy" Carr was an active member of the Chicago Child Care Society for 77 years; and
WHEREAS, In 2010 the Chicago Child Care Society dedicated the Peggy Carr Nature Education Center in her honor at its Preschool Center in Hyde Park; and
WHEREAS, Margaret "Peggy" Carr became involved in the 1940s with the Illinois Birth Control League, now known as Planned Parenthood; and
WHEREAS, Margaret "Peggy" Carr served on the Founders' Board of Children's Memorial Hospital and on the women's boards of Field Museum and the University of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Margaret "Peggy" Carr will be dearly missed by her many friends, neighbors and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her sons, Walter and Thomas, Margaret "Peggy" Carr imparts a legacy of commitment and service; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fourteenth day of December, 2016, do hereby express our condolences to the family of Margaret "Peggy" Carr; and
