RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable William A. "Bill" Allain has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-five; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable William A. "Bill" Allain was the 58th Governor of the State of Mississippi; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable William A. "Bill" Allain graduated from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, and the University of Mississippi School of Law at Oxford; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Washington, Mississippi, the Honorable William A. "Bill" Allain served his country in the infantry during the Korean War; and
 
WHEREAS, Following the war, the Honorable William A. "Bill" Allain practiced law until joining the Mississippi Attorney General's Office in 1962; and
 
WHEREAS, A Democrat, the Honorable William A. "Bill" Allain was elected Attorney General in 1979 and earned a reputation as a consumer advocate; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable William A. "Bill" Allain served as Governor from 1984 to 1988 and during his tenure strengthened the executive branch while streamlining government; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable William A. "Bill" Allain serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable William A. "Bill" Allain will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable William A. "Bill" Allain imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of December, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable William A. "Bill" Allain for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable William A. "Bill" Allain.
