RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, With hearts full of best wishes for her future, mixed with regret to see her depart, the Members ofthis Chamber are pleased to congratulate Alethea Cotton, assistant director ofthe Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection ("DBACP"), on the occasion of her retirement; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Cotton grew up on 57lh Street and Wabash Avenue in Chicago's Washington Park neighborhood, where she attended Carter Elementary School and Betsy Ross Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Englewood High School, Ms. Cotton began her distinguished career with the City in 1987 as a public information assistant in the Department of Revenue. In 2006, Ms. Cotton was promoted to assistant director for business affairs and licensing, a position she held for nine years until her retirement this year; and
WHEREAS, As assistant director of DBACP, Ms. Cotton's many responsibilities included processing business licenses; administering business-related intergovernmental agreements; facilitating the liquor license application process; and working with city departments to ensure speedy and prompt inspections of licensed businesses; and
WHEREAS, Affectionately known to her colleagues as "Miss Cotton," Alethea was an exceptional role model and mentor, who willingly tackled difficult assignments with enthusiasm, professionalism and grace; and
WHEREAS, As DBACP's aldermanic liaison, Alethea earned the respect ofthe Members ofthe City Council and of everyone who was fortunate enough to work with her, for her dedication, knowledge, patience and diplomacy; and
