Resolution Commemorating the 40 Anniversary of Teen
Living Programs
WHEREAS, For four decades Teen Living Programs has provided comprehensive, year-round services to address housing, job readiness, health, and other emergency and critical needs among youth experiencing homelessness in the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Teen Living Programs, as the only agency in the City of Chicago to focus exclusively on serving 14-24 year olds, strives to build community, inspire hope and create opportunities for the city's most vulnerable constituencies - homeless and underserved youth from Chicago's south side neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, In 2015 alone, Teen Living Programs made more than 27,000 contacts with children through street and community outreach efforts, including a drop-in center that allowed Teen Living Program to reach 499 young people in need and forge new partnerships with community providers; and
WHEREAS, Teen Living Program runs three residential programs consisting of a 4-bed emergency shelter for minors, a 24-bed transitional living program and a 10-apartment independent living program; and
WHEREAS, The above programs all include supportive services for education, workforce development, and physical and mental healthcare; and
WHEREAS, Youth exiting Teen Living Programs are eligible to participate in the organization's after-care program, which provides a crucial safety net so that youth continue to be supported and do not return to the streets; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the City Council members of the City of Chicago hereby assembled on this the 10th day of February, 2016, do hereby congratulate Teen Living Programs on the 40th anniversary of their incorporation on March 31,1976 and for their decades of service to the community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the leaders of Teen Living Programs.
