WHEREAS, this august body has been informed ofthe passing of MR. EDGAR "Baby Ruth" LANE, SR., by the Honorable Stephanie D. Coleman, Alderman ofthe 16th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lane was drafted into the U.S. Army in March, 1953 and served his country faithfully; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lane met and married the love of his life, Rosie Lee Flood, raising eight beautiful children to this union; and
WHEREAS, Mr: Lane was well known and loved on 55* and Throop Street as well as the surrounding community. He provided refuge to family and friends traveling from the south to the north in search of better, opportunities and his door was always open; and ,
WHEREAS, Mr. Lane volunteered for ten (10) years with the City of Chicago's Foster Grandparent Program as mentor to children at various elementary schools in the community; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lane was preceded in death by his daughter^ Rose Marie "Tina" in 1987; his son Willie Sylvester "Syl" in 2014 and his wife, Rosie Lee in 2000; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lane leaves a lifetime of precious memories with his surviving children: Allen Ray Flood, Larry, Edgar, Jr., (Gloria), Anthony Leon, Dorothy Jean, Deborah Ann and godÂdaughter, Phyllis Carpenter; and
WHEREAS, Mr: Lane is also survived by his siblings, Eugene, Delores (Emanuel), Vera Diane, Eddie, Sr., (Stephanie), Daflene (Melvin), and Erwin (Tanya); and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lane leaves a treasure of 18 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, i0 great-great grandchildren whom he adored to no end along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends; and
BE IT RESOLVED; that we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, garnered here this 17th day of June, 2020 do hereby express our sincere sorrow upon the passing of MR. EDGAR LANE, SR., and extend our deepest condolences to his family and all the many lives he has touched; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this proclamation be presented to the family of MR. EDGAR LANE, SR. as a sign of our...
