RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoletti has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God one day short of his 87th birthday; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoletti was the beloved husband of the late Rosanna with whom he spent many happy decades; and
WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoletti was the proud father of Chiara and Maria and the cherished grandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, First conducting at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in 1956, Bruno Bartoletti became principal conductor in 1964 and was named artistic director in 1975; and
WHEREAS, Before retiring from both positions in 1999 to serve as artistic director emeritus, Bruno Bartoletti brought lasting enjoyment to appreciative audiences and added to the Lyric's well-deserved reputation as one of the finest opera companies in the world; and
WHEREAS, Conducting nearly 600 performances of fifty-five operas during his fifty-one years at the Lyric, Bruno Bartoletti gave fresh interpretations of established repertoire while also presenting more recent works that have since earned the status of classics in their own right; and
WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoletti served as a mentor, friend and inspiration to many of the finest conductors around the globe; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of his long and fruitful life, Bruno Bartoletti touched the lives of many with his warmth, wisdom and generosity and provided great memories to lovers of opera; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, deep faith and tireless dedication of Bruno Bartoletti serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Bruno Bartoletti to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
