IN TRIBUTE TO WENONA CLEO JOHNSON
WHEREAS, In His infinite wisdom, God has called His good and faithful servant, Wenona Cleo Johnson, to her eternal reward on July 20, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Johnson began life in Anguilla County, Mississippi on December 21,1923 as Wenona Cleo McGary, the daughter of Marie Walker and Fred McGary; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Johnson came to Chicago as part of the historic Great Migration in the 1940s and became a respected business owner, community leader and guidance counselor who was honored as a distinguished professional of the Chicago City Colleges; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of Wenona Cleo Johnson's passing by the Honorable Anthony Beale, Alderman of the 9th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Johnson indeed touched the lives of many and will be remembered for the significant contributions to her community, family, extended family members and friends. She was a devoted wife to her husband Charles who preceded her in death; a doting mother to Nathan (Shirley), Jan (Joe), Donna, Deborah, Karen Wenona, Bryan and Charles; a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren; a proud great-grandmother and great-great grandmother to thirteen great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild; and a faithful family member to many cousins; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 16th day of October 2013, do hereby express our heartfelt condolences at the loss of such a kind and committed spirit as Mrs. Johnson and extend our most sincere sympathy to her family and friends; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Mrs. Wenona Cleo Johnson.
