RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Famed photographer Victor Skrebneski has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of .90; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Victor was born on December 17,1929 in Chicago to Joseph and Anna Skrebneski where his mother owned a restaurant, and his father worked in the steel industry; and
WHEREAS, Victor attended the School ofthe Art Institute of Chicago and the Illinois Institute of Technology; and
WHEREAS, In 1952, Victor set up his own studio in Chicago in the city's Old Town neighborhood and got his first big break in 1962 as the exclusive photographer for Estee Lauder's worldwide ad campaign "the Estee Lauder woman"; and
WHEREAS, Victor was well-known for iconic black and white portraits of Hollywood stars and supermodels which some included Cindy Crawford, Oprah Winfrey, Faye Dunaway, Michelle and Barack Obama, David Bowie, and Bette Davis; and
WHEREAS, In 1989, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago featured an exhibit of Victor's art, and in 1999, a 50-year retrospective of his work was organized by the Museum of Contemporary Photography; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Victor often worked on local projects such as refurbishing the park around Chicago's landmark water tower, and will be best known for his attention-getting posters for the Chicago International Film Festival, which often featured models wearing few if any clothes; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Victor Skrebneski imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-second day of April, 2020, do hereby commemorate Victor Skrebneski for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
