RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Margaret Louise "Peggy" Constantine has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-two; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Louise "Peggy" Constantine was a celebrated Chicago journalist and a recognized expert on classical music; and

WHEREAS, The daughter of a physician father and a nurse mother, Margaret Louise "Peggy" Constantine was raised in Racine, Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Louise "Peggy" Constantine graduated from Duke University and earned a master's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Louise "Peggy" Constantine began her career at CBS-TV in Chicago, then moved to the editorial department of World Book Encyclopedia; and

WHEREAS, In 1960 Margaret Louise "Peggy" Constantine became a features reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times and was later awarded a two year Rockefeller Foundation grant to participate in the University of Southern California's School of Music's Project for the Training of Music Critics; and

WHEREAS, Upon her return to the Sun-Times, Margaret Louise "Peggy" Constantine was a reporter, reviewer of classical music concerts, and a writer of book reviews; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Louise "Peggy" Constantine was known throughout her career for her wit and energy; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Louise "Peggy" Constantine retired from the Sun-Times after nearly three decades and moved to Racine, Wisconsin to be closer to friends and family; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Louise "Peggy" Constantine continued in her retirement to write book reviews for the Nexu York Times, to teach journalism classes to graduate students at Northwestern University and to travel; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Margaret Louise "Peggy" Constantine serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, To her brother, Dr. Thomas, and her fourteen nieces and nephews, Margaret Louise...
