WHEREAS, After 34 years of service with the City of Chicago, Phil O'Connor retired at the end of
WHEREAS, Phil began his career with the City in 1978 as a machinist with the Department of Streets and Sanitation, the Bureau of Equipment Services, where he worked for twelve years; and

WHEREAS, In 1990, Phil became an Acting Foreman of Machinists in the Department of Fleet Management where he supervised 25 machinists at the Northwest facility; and

WHEREAS, Phil became an Inspector of Machinists in the same department in 1994, where he inspected the City's fleet of equipment; and

WHEREAS, In 1996, Phil became the Manager of Vehicle Maintenance for the Department of Fleet Management, taking on the responsibility for the day-to-day management of the repair and maintenance of equipment at North & Throop and met daily with all trades foremen to ensure that work flow met the needs of 25 various city departments served by Fleet Management; and

WHEREAS, Phil became the Director of Maintenance Operations for the Department of Fleet and Facility Management in 2000 where he remained until his retirement, and was responsible for the day-to-day management of the repair and maintenance of equipment at the Department's 200,000 ft2 main " facility and North & Throop, with 150 repair stalls and 199 trades personnel represented by 10 bargaining units, oversight ofthe 101st Street shop and O'Hare International airport fleet maintenance complex and coordinated maintenance and repairs for Streets and Sanitation, Transportation, Water Management, Chicago Park District, Chicago Housing Authority, and Chicago Transit Authority (non-revenue) fleets, as well as 20+ smaller departmental fleets; and
