RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Peter Frelinghuysen, Jr., has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-five; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of New Jersey, the Honorable Peter Frelinghuysen, Jr., was the loving and devoted husband of the late Beatrice Sterling Procter; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Peter Frelinghuysen, Jr., was the much-adored father of Peter, Rodney, Frederick, Beatrice and Adaline to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Peter Frelinghuysen, Jr., was the grandfather of thirteen and the great-grandfather of nine; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Peter Frelinghuysen, Jr., served as a United States Congressman from New Jersey from 1953 to 1974; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Peter Frelinghuysen, Jr., fought tirelessly to prevent the building of an airport in New Jersey's Great Swamp, which has since been named a National Wildlife Refuge area that is now federally protected; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Peter Frelinghuysen, Jr., spoke out against the tactics of Senator Joseph McCarthy, supported the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964, and was a passionate believer in using federal funds for the construction of new schools; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Princeton University and Yale Law School, the Honorable Peter Frelinghuysen, Jr., served in naval intelligence during World War II; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Peter Frelinghuysen, Jr., was the fifth member of his family to serve in the United States Congress; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Peter Frelinghuysen, Jr., will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends, and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Peter Frelinghuysen, Jr., imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
