MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Thelma M. Wians, on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the age of ninety-four; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Bom on March 25, 1920 in South Dakota, to Herbert and Bertha (Gunderson) Swedlund, Thelma and her (late) husband, Warren, were united in matrimony on November 15, 1945 in the great city of Chicago, where the couple raised their family before moving to Sun City Huntley in 2001; and
WHEREAS, Thelma, a devoted wife, and a loving caring mother is proceeded in death by her husband, Warren; her son, James Wian, who served in the U.S. Army in 1967 in Germany; and seven siblings. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children; Peggy Altmeyer, Pamela Lanteri, David (Demetria) Wians, and Donna (Jeannette Hatcher) Wians; she relished and adored her ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; her friends, including fellow members of Trinity Lutheran Church of Huntley and the Sun City Scrabble Club where she was an avid scrabble player; and
WHEREAS, She was an active and vital member of her community who touched the lives of all who knew her through her kindness, generosity, and her spirit. She will be deeply missed, but the reminiscence of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this fifth day of November 2014, do hereby express our sorrows on the death of Thelma M. Wians, and express to her family and friends our deepest sympathies; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Thelma M. Wians as a token of our honor, love, and respect.
