RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, After twelve years of public service with the City of Chicago, Ellen Sahli recently accepted a position as Director of Civic Engagement for the University of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her appointment by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Ellen Sahli began her tenure with the city of Chicago on January 19, 1999, serving in the Department of Housing and Economic Development; and
WHEREAS, In her role as Managing Deputy Commissioner for the Bureau of Housing, Ellen Sahli tackled challenging housing issues and helped to create a bold, five-year housing plan for the city; and
WHEREAS, During the downturn in the real estate market, Ellen Sahli directed aggressive strategies to reach Chicagoans struggling with foreclosure; and
WHEREAS, As the Mayor's liaison on homelessness and supportive housing, Ellen Sahli collaborated with many service providers to reduce the rate of homelessness by twelve percent; and
WHEREAS, Ellen Sahli developed the model for the Chicago Neighborhood Stabilization Program, which achieved both national recognition and federal funding; and
WHEREAS, The new post at the University of Chicago will find Ellen Sahli collaborating with community, civic, and government organizations to increase effective partnerships between the university and the city; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this thirteenth day of April, 2011, do hereby express our gratitude to Ellen Sahli for her twelve years of public service and do hereby congratulate her on being named Director of Civic Engagement for the University of Chicago; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ellen Sahli.
