Memorial Resolution
WHEREAS, In His infinite wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Samuel Warren Richardson on February 26, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Deborah Graham, Alderman of the 29th Ward, has informed this esteemed body of the transition of Samuel Richardson; and
WHEREAS, Bom on July 29, 1923, in Birmingham, Alabama, to parents Frank and Emma Richardson, Samuel was baptized as a Baptist at an early age, and as an adult became a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Chicago. In his final years with us, Samuel was a member of United Lutheran Church in Oak Park; and
WHEREAS, Samuel served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from June 1946 until his honorable discharge in June 1956. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economy from Tuskegee University in Alabama, and worked as a postal clerk before retiring at age 72 as a clerk with the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation; and
WHEREAS, Samuel was active in his community, serving in leadership positions in organizations such as the Grand Masonic Lodge and the Lutheran Church. Samuel acted as a precinct captain in the Austin community, and he became the first director for the Lutheran Family Mission, which provides essentials for those in need; and
WHEREAS, Samuel leaves to mourn his loving wife of 67 years, Willie M. (nee Hughes) Richardson; his children Gwendolyn White (John), Jacquelyn Glenn (Joseph), Samuel Richardson, Jr., Felicia Richardson-McGee (Rickey), and Kimberly Richardson; eight grandchildren: Chantel Boyd (Michael), Yvette and Renee Richardson, William Walker, Jr. (Samantha), Noelle and Nicole McGee, Nathanial and Nia Richardson; eight great­grandchildren: Phillip, Zjacobi, Howard, Christian, DeAngelo, DeAndre, and William III; a nephew: Harold Tate (Carolyn) and many cousins, friends, and members of his church family. Samuel was preceded in death by his son Reginald, and a grandchild: Quaashi; now, therefore,
