RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Monsignor Francis Maniola has celebrated the occasion of his 75th Anniversary of ordination to the priesthood and his 100th Birthday; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, The eldest son of Rocco and Rose, the Reverend Monsignor Francis Maniola was born on April 25, 1913 and was ordained to the priesthood by Cardinal George Mundelein on April 23, 1938; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Monsignor Francis Maniola served as a teacher and administrator at Quigley Preparatory Seminary and was named the third pastor of St. Symphorosa Parish in 1968; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Monsignor Francis Maniola presided over the continued growth of the parish where he instituted the liturgical reforms of Vatican II; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Monsignor Francis Maniola retired in 1981 with the title of Pastor Emeritus and continues to reside at St. Symphorosa which has long been his home; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Monsignor Francis Maniola is blessed with a sharp intellect and a delightful wit and remains a deeply spiritual man of prayer and reflection; and
 
WHEREAS, A Mass of Thanksgiving was held in honor of the life and ministry of the Reverend Monsignor Francis Maniola on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at St. Symphorosa Church in Chicago; and
 
WHEREAS, The holiness, sacrifice and faith of the Reverend Monsignor Francis Maniola serve as an example to all; now, therefore
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of May, 2013, do hereby congratulate the Reverend Monsignor Francis Maniola on the celebration of his 100th Birthday and the 75th Anniversary of his ordination; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Reverend Monsignor Francis Maniola. /I
