RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Honorable Harvey Schwartz has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-four; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A widely admired member of the legal community and longtime resident of Skokie, the Honorable Harvey Schwartz was the beloved husband of Suzanne; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Harvey Schwartz was the proud father of Lisa, Karyn and David and the grandfather of eight to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Harvey Schwartz earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign and a law degree from Kent College of Law; and

WHEREAS, A proud veteran of the United States Army, the Honorable Harvey Schwartz served as an officer during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, As Skokie's Corporation Counsel in the late 1970's, the Honorable Harvey Schwartz took a firm stand against allowing neo-Nazis to conduct a march through that community that was the home of many survivors of the Holocaust; and

WHEREAS, In 1987 the Honorable Harvey Schwartz became a Judge in the Chicago Traffic Court and rose to the position of Supervising Judge; and

WHEREAS, In 1995 the Honorable Harvey Schwartz moved to the Third Municipal District of the Circuit Court of Cook County where he was Presiding Judge until the time of his retirement; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Harvey Schwartz touched the lives of many with his warmth and generosity; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Harvey Schwartz serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Harvey Schwartz to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Harvey Schwartz imparts a legacy ...
