RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, John F. ("Jack") Sandner has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 79; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Jack is survived by his wife, Carole (Erhardt) Sandner and their eight children, Kathleen M. Sandner-Gialamas, Christopher J. Sandner, Angela M. Sandner-Stensrud, Michael A. Sandner, Nicholas J. Sandner, Allysann E. Sandner, Kevin M. Sandner, Annamarie E. Sandner, and several grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Jack was born in South Side, Chicago on November 3,1941; and
WHEREAS, He attended Chicago Vocational High School, eventually graduating from Leo Catholic High School as valedictorian;
WHEREAS, Jack was awarded a scholarship to study psychology at Southern Illinois University earning a Bachelor of Arts; and
WHEREAS, He went on to obtain a Juris Doctorate from the University of Notre Dame, where he received the law school's Dean's Award and won the three-year Appellate Advocacy competition; and
WHEREAS, Jack earned a fellowship to the Law Science Academy, where he won the Dr. Ruth Jackson Award, graduating with high honors; and
WHEREAS, Jack was called to the Illinois Bar in 1968 and was subsequently admitted to several courts, including the United States Supreme Court; and
WHEREAS, In 1971, Jack borrowed $80,000 to purchase a seat on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME); and
WHEREAS, By 1977, Jack established his own trading firm, and was elected to the board of the CME; and .
WHEREAS, He went on to become its chairman in 1980, becoming the youngest ever elected to the position and the first to serve multiple terms throughout the 1980s and 1990s; and
WHEREAS, Jack testified frequently before Congress as an industry leader, most notably the 1980 Gold and Silver Crisis, the 1987 stock market crash, and in the 1990s the modernization of financial services regulation; and
WHEREAS, Jack was appointed to various boards and commissions...
