Commemorating 70th Anniversary of Lawrence's Fish and Shrimp
Whereas, Lawrence Schweig opened a carry out seafood restaurant on the Chicago River near the bridge at 2120 S Canal Street in 1950 to serve the great people of Chicago. He served fresh and smoked fish, some of which were brought in from Lake Michigan on his own boats.
Whereas, Lawrence's Fish & Shrimp is a family owned and operated restaurant group since 1950.
Whereas, He and his sons created special recipes for fried shrimp and hot sauce that have been customer favorites for 70 years and counting.
Whereas, Lawrence's Fish & Shrimp now has four locations and operates a food truck. Across its four locations, Lawrence's Fish & Shrimp serves about 1,000 customers each day with the help of nearly 70 full-time employees.
Whereas, Lawrence's Fisheries has been recognized as a staple, an icon, and an institution that generations of customers have visited for decades.
Whereas, Lawrence's has been open 24 hours per day serving shift workers, late night party goers, and Chicagoans from all walks of life.
Whereas, in 1972, to better serve guests, a new, larger restaurant was built in the same place as the original shack. That new restaurant still stands today and serves thousands of guests every week.
Whereas, Over the years, Lawrence's added indoor dining as well as other locations in the Chicagoland area. Guests still refer to Lawrence's as 'the shrimp place on Canal by the bridge'.
