RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Dan Walker has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Dan Walker served as the 36th Governor of the State of Illinois and served in office from 1973 to 1977; and
WHEREAS, Raised near San Diego, California, the Honorable Dan Walker served his country in World War II and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis in 1945; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Dan Walker came to Illinois to attend Northwestern University School of Law and worked as a trial lawyer for the firm of Hopkins-Sutter and as a legal counsel for Montgomery Ward 86 Company; and
WHEREAS, In 1970 the Honorable Dan Walker served as the campaign chairman for the election of Adlai E. Stevenson III for United States Senator; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Dan Walker launched his gubernatorial campaign in 1971 and captivated the attention of Illinoisans when he walked across the state; and
WHEREAS, Widely admired for his reputation as a reformer, the Honorable Dan Walker won passage of a landmark campaign disclosure law and issued executive orders forbidding corrupt practices by state workers; and
WHEREAS, During his term in office, the Honorable Dan Walker also started the Regional Transportation Authority and the Illinois State Lottery; and
WHEREAS, Following his career in public service, the Honorable Dan Walker was a businessman and author; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Dan Walker serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Dan Walker to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Dan Walker will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
