RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Mark Lenard Justen has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 66; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Mark is survived by his wife, Nancy Jean and sons, Robert Justen, and Alex Justen, his sister and brother-in-law, Krista [Greg] Spencer, sister-in-law, Peg (Jim) Thompson, and his aunt, Carol Wieland, and several cousins and six nephews; and
WHEREAS, Following high school graduation in 1972, Mark attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute to study sports medicine; and
WHEREAS, In 1975, Mark joined the family funeral home business as the fourth generation and expanded the funeral home business into three facilities - Justen Funeral Home and Crematory in McHenry, Justen's Wonder Lake Funeral Home and Justen's Round Lake Funeral Home; and
WHEREAS, Service to the community was a central pillar of Mark's life, which extended beyond the funeral home; and
WHEREAS, Within the McHenry community, Mark was a member ofthe fire service for 49 consecutive years eventually becoming a firefighter and fire trustee with the McHenry Township Fire Protection District; and
WHEREAS, In the 1980's, Mark joined in disaster mortuary affairs with his state association, the Illinois Funeral Directors Association; and
WHEREAS, Mark served with the federal response unit, Disaster-Mortuary Operational Response Team (D-MORT) and was activated to serve on the response teams for several major fatality incidents such as Hurricane Katrina, American Eagle Flight 4184 crash near Rensselaer, IN, the Bourbonnais train derailment, and the World Trade Center terrorist attack on 9/11/2001; and
WHEREAS, Mark Lenard Justen recently ran and won as the McHenry County Coroner on March 17, 2020; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Mark Lenard Justen imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
