RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, With a new route, new camp, and new event date, the 15th Anniversary ofthe Ride for AIDS Chicago promises to bigger, better, and more exciting than ever! This year's Ride will move from July to September, taking place on September 8 and 9, 2018; and,
WHEREAS, Also new for this year, the route has been flipped; instead of heading to Wisconsin, riders and crew members will travel east to Michigan via a picturesque cycling backdrop, with many paths along Lake Michigan; and,
WHEREAS, The Ride for AIDS Chicago is the Midwest's only back-to-back century cycling event. For this year only, those who feel up to the challenge will have the option of registering to complete the Anniversary Distance, which adds an additional 15 miles in each direction; and,
WHEREAS, Riders will choose from a two-day, 200 mile ride, the one-time only Anniversary distance 230 miles, or a single-day 100-mile option. The Ride for AIDS Chicago is Test Positive Aware Network's largest fundraiser and aims to raise vital unrestricted funds for TPAN and its Community Partners; and,
WHEREAS, Riders completing 230 or 200 miles depart from Evanston's Chandler Park Saturday morning and ride through Chicago, into Indiana, and finally along the shores of Lake Michigan to reach Tower Hill Camp and Retreat in Sawyer, Michigan; and,
WHEREAS, Unlike other rides of this kind, Ride for AIDS Chicago is committed to returning 100% of pledges to the beneficiaries. This year's community partners are "AIDS Foundation of Chicago", "Center on Halsted", "Chicago House", "Fred Says", "Howard Brown Health", and "TPAN"; and now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 27th day of June, 2018, salute Ride for AIDS Chicago 2018 participants and volunteers on their commitment in the fight against HIV/AIDS; and,
