RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, David Rockefeller Sr. has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 101; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, David Rockefeller Sr. was the loving and devoted husband of the late Peggy, nee McGrath; and
WHEREAS, David Rockefeller Sr. was the much-adored father of David Jr., Abigail, Neva, Margaret, Richard and Eileen to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Born in Manhattan and the youngest of six children, David Rockefeller Sr. was the child of John D. Rockefeller Sr. and his wife, Abby; and
WHEREAS, David Rockefeller Sr. graduated from Harvard College and studied at the London School of Economics before receiving his Ph.D from the University of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, David Rockefeller Sr. enlisted in the United States Army as a soldier during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Fluent in French, David Rockefeller Sr. performed intelligence work in North Africa and later served after the liberation of Paris at the United States Embassy; and
WHEREAS, Returning to the United States after the war, David Rockefeller Sr., an heir to the vast family fortune, pursued a career in banking and finance; and
WHEREAS, In his role as President, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chase Manhattan Bank David Rockefeller Sr. expanded the business into one of the world's largest financial institutions; and
WHEREAS, David Rockefeller Sr. was a widely admired philanthropist who donated millions of dollars to the Museum of Modern Art, his alma mater Harvard and the Council on Foreign Relations; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of David Rockefeller Sr.serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, David Rockefeller Sr. imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
