MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of the Thomas W. Earth on February 27, 2016 at the age of seventy-three; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born on April 3, 1942, in Chicago, to loving parents Fred and Sally Earth, Thomas was the beloved husband of Claudia, whom he met in 1967 and then married in 1972; loving father of Tom (Mary) and Suzanne; proud grandfather of Anastasia, Gabriella, Toula and Alexandra; devoted brother of Barbara (Paul); loving uncle to his nieces and nephews; and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Tom leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, Tom grew up on the South Side of Chicago and graduated from Mt. Carmel in 1960. He received his Master's in Sociology from Northeastern Illinois University years later. Tom was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War. After he proudly served our country, he continued his civil service and became a Chicago Police Officer in 1966, retiring as Lieutenant in 2004 after serving the Chicago Police Department for thirty-eight years; and
WHEREAS, An active and vital member of his community, Tom touched the lives of all who knew him through his kindness, generosity, and spirit making him a truly unforgettable person. He was a loyal friend who was known for his sense of humor. When he was asked why he lived so long, he answered that it was because he was a dancer. He will be deeply missed, but the memory of his smile, caring spirit, enduring patience, thoughtfulness, character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him, now, therefore,
