JACK'S RESTAURANT CELEBRATES FIFTY YEARS OF BUSINESS AND ANNOUNCES CLOSING
WHEREAS, Jack's Restaurant celebrated fifty years of business and announced that the restaurant will be closing its doors; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this occasion by Alderman Margaret Laurino, 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, In 1965 Jack Koretos and his late business partner, Jerry Rubin opened the diner which was originally named Jake's, and renamed it Jack's Restaurant, together they operated the twenty-four hour diner for decades, until Jerry left the business several years ago; and
WHEREAS, Following Jerry's departure, Father and son, Jack and George Koretos began operating the diner together. George managed the day-to-day operations, until they received an offer that they could not refuse, feeling confident in the decision to close; and
WHEREAS, Jack's had been a twenty-four hour "hang-out" where teens and adults came to sip coffee, eat, smoke and chat late into the night. The mom and pop-style diner, at 5201 West Touhy Avenue, was one of the few places in the North Shore area where everybody knew your name; and
WHEREAS, Jack's Restaurant was known by its longtime customers as an institution in a modern world where diners are now mostly a nostalgic piece of the past. It was a true cornucopia of real Americana. The long row of barstools lining a shiny counter and friendly long-time employees serving fresh coffee and classic American meals, will always hold a special place in the hearts of its regular customers; and
WHEREAS, The leaders of this great City of Chicago are cognizant of the great debt owed to Jack's Restaurant on fifty years of service to the public; now, therefore,
