Title: Tribute to late Jacoby Dickens

RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Jacoby Dickens has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-one; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A renowned Chicago philanthropist and business leader, Jacoby Dickens was the loving husband for fifteen years of Veranda; and
 
WHEREAS, Jacoby Dickens began his career as a real estate developer on the South Side and at one point managed more than one-hundred apartment buildings and later owned bowling alleys; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1979 Jacoby Dickens was invited to join the board of Seaway Bank & Trust, one of the largest African-American financial institutions in the nation, and was named Chairman in 1983; and
 
WHEREAS, Under the leadership and guidance of Jacoby Dickens, Seaway Bank 85 Trust Company flourished and reached out to promote community development and the growth of small businesses; and
 
WHEREAS, Jacoby Dickens used his entrepreneurial success to support many Chicago institutions and in 1995 Chicago State University renamed its athletics building in his honor; and
 
WHEREAS, Jacoby Dickens established a loan and scholarship program at DePaul University; and
 
WHEREAS, Jacoby Dickens was a gentle, kind and humble man who will be dearly missed; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Jacoby Dickens serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Jacoby Dickens imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of May, 2013, do hereby commemorate Jacoby Dickens for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jacoify Dickens.
