Title: Tribute to late Rudolph Nimocks, Sr.

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Rudolph ("Rudy") Nimocks Sr. has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 91; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Rudy is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce Nimocks of more than 50 years, and other family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Rudy was born on May 18,1929 in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in the Bronzeville neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, Rudy received degrees in Public Administration and Management from a variety of institutions, including Northwestern and I.I.T.; and

WHEREAS, Rudy held a variety of jobs such as a CTA bus driver, a postman, a fireman, an insurance salesman, and joined the military for 18 months; and

WHEREAS, Rudy's police career began with the Chicago Park District, Police Department, where he started out as a patrolman; and

WHEREAS, In 1956, Rudy joined the Chicago Police Department ("CPD") where he spent more than three decades, becoming the first African American to lead the homicide section and the organized crime division; and

WHEREAS, In 1989, after 33 years with CPD, Rudy became Chief of the University of Chicago, Police Department; and

WHEREAS, In 2009, Rudy became Director of Community Partnerships in the Office of Civic Engagement, where he focused on collaboration between the University of Chicago and its neighboring communities; and

WHEREAS, In 2012, the 6100 block of South Greenwood Avenue on the south edge of campus was dedicated as a tribute to Rudy and his wife as "Rudy and Joyce Way"; and

WHEREAS, Rudy retired in 2017, with a number of other accolades to his name, including the University's Diversity Leadership Award and selection to Chicago's Senior Citizen Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Rudolph Nimocks Sr. imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
