RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Shirley Temple has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Temple was a child star renowned as Hollywood's top box office draw during its Golden Age; and
WHEREAS, Born in Santa Monica, California, Shirley Temple was the daughter of a homemaker and a bank employee; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Temple began her film career at the age of three and starred in a string of hit movies that included Bright Eyes, Curly Top, Poor Little Rich Girl and Heidi; and
WHEREAS, Following a career during which she delighted audiences and won their everlasting affection, Shirley Temple retired from acting at twenty-one; and
WHEREAS, Later in life, Shirley Temple went on to hold a series of government posts and served as Ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia and Chief of Protocol of the United States; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Temple served on the boards of the Walt Disney Company, Del Monte Foods and the National Wildlife Federation; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Temple was the recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild; and
WHEREAS, Known as Shirley Temple Black in her private life, she will be remembered for her talent, resilience and optimism; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Shirley Temple serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Shirley Temple to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Temple was an individual of great integrity and
accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Shirley Temple imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
