TRIBUTE TO LATE JOANNE "JODY" McDOWELL.

WHEREAS, It was with great sadness that members of this chamber learned of the February 21, 2016 death of Joanne "Jody" McDowell, an outstanding woman who devoted her life to her family and her community; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Margaret Laurino; and

WHEREAS, Jody McDowell, nee Carlson, was deeply devoted to her family. She was the beloved wife of Richard "Dick"; loving sister of Geoff (Susann) Carlson and the late Cathleen (Joseph) Giustino; cherished aunt-mother of Jeffrey (Veronica) and Amy Giustino and Jennifer (Rich) Moore; and, dearest great aunt-grandmother of Lilian, Emilia and Dylan. Jody leaves a legacy of compassion, dignity and love; and

WHEREAS, Jody McDowell was a vital mainstay of her Edgebrook neighborhood, making many important and lasting contributions in the lives of local families and children. She was an active member and an officeholder of many community organizations, including the Edgebrook Community Association (ECA), Edgebrook Historical Society, Edgebrook Women's Club and Carondelet Auxiliary; and

WHEREAS, Jody's commitment to service and to her community never wavered. Whether she was taking charge of the ECA's snowplow service, selling tickets to the community's annual picnic, or diligently working to prepare annual budgets, her neighbors always knew they could count on Jody. For her service and dedication, the ECA named her Grand Marshall in their 2009 Fourth of July parade; and

WHEREAS, Jody McDowell was a woman of great accomplishment and integrity. She will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,
