SALUTE TO THE NOWRUZ PARADE

WHEREAS, Nowruz, a Persian word meaning "New Day", is an ancient vernal festival that commemorates new beginnings of a new year; and

WHEREAS, Nowruz is a cherished and revered custom of the peoples the nations of Afghanistan, Albania, Armenia; Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Irani Iraq, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will celebrate with family reunions and public ceremonies;; and

WHEREAS^ The 4th Annual Chicago Nowruz Parade will take place on Saturday, March 30,2013 presented by die Chicago Nowruz Parade Organizing Committee, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to. facilitating/ cross-cultural communication; and understanding; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel S. Solis, Alderman of the 25^th Ward and the , Honorable Proco Joe Moreno, Alderman of the 1^st Ward, have apprised this august body (of this noteworthy event; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 1.3^th Day of March, 2013 AD, do hereby salute die Chicago Nowruz Parade and extend our very best wishes for a healthy and fruitful Persian New. Year.

BE If FURTHER RESOLVED, thatthe last Saturday of March of this and each successive year/be known asiChicago Nowruz Parade-Day throughout:our, city.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and^

presented to the Chicago Nowruz Parade Orgamzing Committee. ^
