RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Developer Michael W. Reschke, the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Prime Group Inc., will join civic leaders in celebrating the grand opening of the Residence Inn at 11 South LaSalle Street in Chicago on November 10, 2015: and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Commissioned by the McCormick family, the building originally opened as the Roanoke Tower in 1915 and was designed by architects Holabird & Roche, a firm known for designing some of the world's first skyscrapers; and
WHEREAS, The exterior ofthe 100-year-old landmark remains Chicago's sole example of Portuguese-style Gothic architecture and the original bell tower still stands atop the historic structure; and
WHEREAS, For more than a century the McCormick family developed real estate in Chicago using profits from the McCormick Reaper; and
WHEREAS, The former Roanoke Tower was long considered a prime example of the investments made by the McCormick family; and
WHEREAS, The largest bell in the tower is inscribed with the name "Leander" in honor of Leander McCormick; and
WHEREAS, The Residence Inn is owned by developer Mike Reschke and the Prime Group Inc., and will be operated in partnership with Marriott Hotels; and
WHEREAS, The Residence Inn will offer hotel guests a lobby bar and lounge and 7,500 square feet of meeting space and represents a remarkable achievement in the restoration of this historic building to its original elegance; and
WHEREAS, The completion of this project brings new jobs and further revitalizes our City's downtown business district, while paying due homage to our city's glorious architectural antiquity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-eighth day of October 2015, do
