RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, it is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned ofthe death of Chicago writer Lee Sandlin; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has been informed of his passing by Ameya Pawar, Alderman of the 47th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Lee passed away suddenly on December 14, 2014 and was the beloved husband of Nina and son of Dorothy; and
WHEREAS, Lee was a fourth-generation Chicagoan and lifelong resident of the city; and
WHEREAS, Lee was a celebrated author who penned three books along with essays all of which were acclaimed by readers and critics across the world; and
WHEREAS, Lee was a long-time contributor to the Chicago Reader, and widely considered one of the paper's best writers; and
WHEREAS, Lee was a gifted portrayer of the landscapes, people and character of the Midwest; and
WHEREAS, Lee was a proud resident of the 47th Ward and frequented many businesses and cultural establishments in the ward and was a familiar face to many; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of May 2015, do hereby commemorate Lee Sandlin for his remarkable life and work, and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lee Sandlin.
