RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Ray Emory has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 97; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A former Chief Boatswain's Mate assigned to the USS Honolulu, Ray Emory was a survivor ofthe December 7, 1941 attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor; and

 

WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Hawaii, Ray Emory dedicated his life to identifying the remains of hundreds of service members who were buried as "unknowns"; and

 

WHEREAS, A member of "Our Greatest Generation," Ray Emory is credited with identifying the remains of more than 100 previously unidentified service members; and

 

WHEREAS, In 2012 the Navy and the National Park Service recognized Ray Emory for his work with the Department of Veterans Affairs in honoring Pearl Harbor's dead; and

 

WHEREAS, The courage, sacrifice and dedication of Ray Emory serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Ray Emory to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Ray Emory was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Ray Emory imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of September, 2018, do hereby commemorate Ray Emory for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ray Emory.
