RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Elizabeth Cabral-Arreola, a resident of the 14th Ward, has been awarded The Unsung Heroine Award presented by the Cook County Commission on Women's Issues; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this honor by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, For the past 25 years, Elizabeth Cabral-Arreola has quietly and without recompense served as the Director of the St. Vincent DePaul Society District 9 Food Pantry, a not-for-profit organization in partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository; and

WHEREAS, The pantry operates out of St. Gall Parish and previously operated out of St. Clare of Montefalco Parish; and

WHEREAS, The pantry's service area has assisted the needy throughout the years in Gage Park, Brighton Park, McKinley Park, Archer Heights, Marquette Park and West Lawn as well as other southwest side communities; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Cabral-Arreola has also facilitated the growth of the Thanksgiving/Christmas Holiday Food Distribution program which assists 5,000 families and provides toys to 1,500 children; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Cabral-Arreola is a caring and dedicated community leader who exemplifies the true spirit of volunteerism; and

WHEREAS, Born in Austin, Texas, Elizabeth Cabral-Arreola moved to Chicago in 1973 where she attended Wells High School and went on to enjoy a career with the Chicago Department of Aviation; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Cabral-Arreola has been married for more than 35 years to her husband, Alfredo, and is the proud mother of three and grandmother of four; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Cabral-Arreola's extraordinary commitment and energy serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Cabral-Arreola is an individual who is exceedingly worthy of our admiration and esteem; now, therefore
